Dr. He founded CNHUPO, the Beijing Proteome Research Center, the State Key Laboratory of Proteomics, the Phoenix Center (National Center for Protein Sciences∙Beijing), now a world-class hub for large-scale proteomics, Institute of Biomedical Sciences.Fudan University and International Academy of Phronesis Medicine (Guangdong).

Dr. He has been a passionate leader within HUPO, serving as an inaugural Council Member, Inaugural Chair and Co-Chair of HLPP, and as Past President of AOHUPO and CNHUPO. He organized the 3rd HUPO Congress, the 6th AOHUPO Congress, and every CNHUPO meeting for the last 20 years. His contributions have been recognized by HUPO with the Memorial Investigation Award (2004), Distinguished Service Award (2011), and Distinguished Achievement Award (2020).

As Chief Scientist, he designed and led CNHPP, pioneering the use of the proteome to define physiological and pathological states. His team stratified early HCC into three proteomic subtypes with distinct outcomes, identified therapeutic candidates, and established Proteomics Driven Precision Medicine (PDPM) as a new paradigm. In recent years, Dr. He has spearheaded the π-HuB (Proteomic Navigator of the Human Body) Project, a global effort to map the human proteome across the lifespan, define health and disease, and build a digital body navigation system.

Under his leadership, π-HuB has united over 100 leading scientists, convened international summits, and published an influential Nature white paper in 2024. At the same time, he has strengthened HUPO’s role as a driver of global collaboration, linking academia, medicine, and industry to accelerate translation. I am honoured to nominate myself for the position of President Elect of HUPO. My leadership journey has always been rooted in transparency, participative decision-making, and nurturing emerging leaders. I believe these principles are crucial for the effective functioning of any organisation.

Leadership and Financial Management:  During my tenure as Treasurer of HUPO, I navigated the financial challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic as part of the Executive Committee and managed to achieve a healthy profit and an increase of funds under difficult circumstances, cancelling and conducting online HUPO conferences. My experience in securing significant funding, such as the $500,000 grant for HUPO 2019, underscores my capability to manage and enhance the financial health of our society.

Commitment to Equality and Diversity:  As a migrant and the first in my family to attend university, I am deeply committed to promoting gender equality, equity, and diversity within our community. As President, I will ensure that these values are at the forefront of our policies and initiatives. My track record demonstrates a consistent focus on inclusivity, gender equity and providing leadership pathways for ECRs and MCRs, as evidenced by my efforts in both APS and HUPO.

Scientific Excellence: My research in biomarker discovery for early cancer detection and the establishment of Mass Spectrometry Imaging for cancer diagnosis aligns with HUPO's mission of advancing proteomics for human health. I am dedicated to maintaining high scientific standards and fostering innovation within our field.

Vision for HUPO:

Uphold transparency and participative decision-making processes
• Foster an inclusive environment that prioritises gender equality and diversity.
• Ensure financial stability through strategic decision making.
• Promote high-quality scientific programmes and collaborations.

I am excited about the opportunity to serve the HUPO community as President and lead the Executive Committee towards achieving our shared goals. Together, we can continue to advance the field of proteomics and make significant contributions to human health.
