Position/title: Group Leader - Mass Spectrometry (m/f/d)
Location: Frankfurt, Germany
Summary of position: Our client, a global leader in applied proteomics and biomarker discovery, is seeking a highly motivated individual to lead their Mass Spectrometry team based in Frankfurt, Germany.
As Group Leader – Mass Spectrometry, you will oversee the delivery of client-focused proteomics projects and contribute to internal R&D initiatives. You will work closely with a team of scientists dedicated to producing high-quality proteomic data to support pharmaceutical and academic partners worldwide.
This is a hands-on leadership role within a fast-paced, technology-driven environment that frequently adopts and integrates new analytical approaches. The ideal candidate will be experienced in managing complex LC-MS/MS workflows and passionate about advancing proteomic science through collaborative, client-driven research.
Key Duties and Responsibilities Include:

Daily operation, quality control and troubleshooting of mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography equipment in interaction with technical personnel in the MS team.

Development and implementation of LC-MS methods for both multiplexed discovery approaches (e.g., Isobaric tagging, LF, DDA, DIA, etc.) as well as targeted analyses.

Daily interaction with scientists from neighbouring departments to customize the approach depending on project requirements.

Supporting the COO in the management of group resources and capacity planning to ensure a timely delivery of client projects within the allocated budget.

MS data analysis and close collaboration with the Bioinformatics team, suggesting and exploring novel ways of analyzing and interpreting MS data.

Technical consulting and contribution to client communication in the form of project proposals, data presentations and reporting.

Depending on experience, project management of customer projects.
You Have:

A degree in a relevant area of competency (e.g., Bioanalytical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a natural science) with relevant industry experience (e.g., 8-10 years) preferably including a leadership role within a commercial environment.

You have hands-on experience in the operation and maintenance of mass spectrometry and LC equipment (ideally, Orbitrap and other Thermo Scientific MS instruments).

Involvement in multiplexed discovery proteomics experiments, including the analysis of post-translational modifications.

First experience in the development of targeted SRM and PRM methods for peptide analytes. Additional experience in the analyses of metabolites and small molecules will be considered a plus.

You have an open-minded, flexible personality and can-do problem-solving attitude and you communicate efficiently in cross-functional teams as well as in front of clients.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Proficiency in German (B2/C1) is desirable.

Small Team Line Management experience and / or leading scientific projects / collaborations will be an advantage.

Experience of working in a regulatory environment (e.g., GxP, GCLP, ISO, etc.) is advantageous
