HUPO is leading the effort to create protein test standards for calibration of methods and techniques used in proteome studies. Protein test standards can take a variety of forms including simple protein mixtures,
phosphoprotein mixtures, glycoprotein mixtures, and complex protein mixtures. Recent work on protein test
standards will be discussed in this forum including evaluations of protein mixtures for specific types of analyses and suggestions for future protein test standards.

The HUPO Liver Proteome Project is now reaching the end of its pilot phase. During this period, the scientific objectives have been to characterize the proteome of the healthy human liver (expression profiling, cellular localization, post-translational modifications, protein-protein interactions) and to develop tools for its study (sample banking, ORFeome, antibodies). Achievements will be presented during this workshop and we will discuss how to use the information and tools generated by this international effort, to understand, diagnose and treat liver diseases.
